“The matrimonial covenant, by which a man and a woman establish between themselves a partnership of the whole of life, is by its nature ordered toward the good of the spouses and the procreation and education of offspring; this covenant between baptized persons has been raised by Christ the Lord to the dignity of a sacrament.” – Catechism of the Catholic Church [#1601]
Congratulations on your engagement! Marriage is a sacred vocation, one requiring much prayer and planning, so please contact one of our parish priests at least six months prior to your planned wedding date to begin preparations.
If you or your fiance are a parishioner of Incarnate Word Parish, one of our priests or deacons will guide you through sacramental marriage preparation and our Director of Music Ministry will help you select music for your wedding ceremony. Call the parish office at 314-576-5366.For a list of the Archdiocese of St. Louis' marriage preparation classes and registration options, click here.
In the meantime, below is an activity that you and your future spouse can undertake - discussing what family traditions you want to maintain or create as a new family unit. The first page includes examples of practices you might want to begin as a couple, and later with children, and the second page is for you to fill in with your own plans. Have fun!
There are many Catholic resources available to help you and your (future) spouse . Visit the Archdiocese of St. Louis’ Natural Family Planning (NFP) resources to learn more about this holistic approach that relies on communication and the charting of fertility signs to foster shared responsibility in achieving or avoiding pregnancy.
