Perpetual Eucharistic Adoration
The mission of these volunteers is to spend one hour in prayer with Jesus who is truly present in the Blessed Sacrament.
For more information, contact Mary Fleming at (314) 469-6281.
Incarnate
Word Parish is blessed to have Eucharistic Adoration 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
As the coordinator for this ministry, I deeply appreciate the time and
talent freely given by the Adorers, Hourly Captains, and Division Leaders
so that all parishoners can stop by our Chapel at any time.
I
invite you to join us in this very rewarding ministry. For additional
information, please see the Q&A below.

Perpetual Eucharistic Adoration Questions & Answers
Q: Why have Perpetual Adoration?
- Our Holy Father,
Pope John Paul II, says that "The best, the surest and the most effective way
of establishing everlasting PEACE on the face of the earth is through the great
power of Perpetual Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament."
Q: Why should I join this ministry?
- "Indeed this is
the will of my Heavenly Father, that everyone who looks upon the Son and believes
in Him, shall have eternal life. Him I will raise on the last day."
(John 6:40)
Q: Why do I need to go for an hour?
- Again, this has
a scriptural basis. In the agony in the garden, Jesus asked his apostles, "Could
you not watch one hour with Me?" (Mt 6:21)
Q: What do I do in that hour?
- You can do
anything you want. You may bring your own prayerbooks, use the books in the
Chapel, read the Bible, pray the rosary or just sit, relax and enjoy the sweet
peace that comes from simply being in the presence of God. You may feel you
can't pray well. Don't let that discourage you. The mere fact that you take
time out at a specific time each week to spend an hour with Jesus in the
Blessed Sacrament pleases Him very much and is in itself a prayer of great faith.
Q: How do I become an Adorer?
- Contact
Mary Fleming at (314) 469-6281.
Q: Can I choose to stop by any time?
- Yes.
Everyone is always welcome to visit the Chapel. Those who can are encouraged to
commit to a specific day and time. We are allowed the privilege of Perpetual
Eucharistic Adoration only because someone is scheduled to be present before
Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament at all times.
Q: Can I be available as a substitute?
- Yes.
We need substitutes as well. Other Adorers can then
contact you if they need a replacement.
Q: How can I get a current schedule?
- The current schedule
is posted on the schedule board and printed copies and substitute lists are
available in the racks in the back of the Chapel.
Q: How often
do I go?
- Most people try to
go on a weekly basis. Some sign up with a friend
or family member and alternate weeks.
Q: What happens when I am out of town or I have a conflict?
-
You check with your prayer partners. These are the people who have the same
day and time as you do for Adoration. As long as one of you will be there, that
is the minimum required. It's also a good idea to compile your own list of
family members or friends
who would be willing to take your place occasionally. Then call on them to
help when needed. You will be giving Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament the
opportunity to reward their act of charity and Jesus will bless you for
leading others to Him.
Q: What happens when my prayer partners and I will be out of town?
-
One of you needs to be responsible for arranging a substitute or trading
hours with someone else. Substitute lists are available in the Chapel.
Often people with the hour before or after you or someone with the same
time on another day of the week will be glad to exchange hours or fill in
for you.
Q: What happens if an emergency comes up?
- You should first
find out if your prayer partners will be there. If you can't get in touch with
them, contact your hourly captain.
If you can't reach your hourly captain, try the
division leader. If you can't reach your division leader, try the
parish coordinator. This gives you several people to call in case of an
emergency. It's always better to talk to a person than just leave a message, so
that you know that someone will be there.
Q: I am not from this parish, can I be part of this Chapel?
- Yes.
We have several adorers who are from other parishes. Everyone is welcome.
Q: What happens on holidays?
-
We have volunteers sign up for the specific days and times that they are
available for given holiday. If you and your prayer partners will not be
there, you need to arrange a sub from this list.
Q: What must I do if my shedule changes.
- You are
encouraged to let your prayer partners and your hourly captain know that you
need to change to different day and time.
Q: What happens when the weather is bad?
- We don't
want anyone to get hurt. In severe weather, Father will place the Blessed
Sacrament in the tabernacle, so people can still come and pray if they like, but
no one has to venture out because the Blessed Sacrament will not be exposed.
We will notify the scheduled Adorers if we close the Chapel and we will place a
message on (314) 576-5366 Ext 53 indicating if the Chapel is closed or open.
Q: What happens if I forget my day?
- We are human.
Sometimes people forget it's their day and time for Adoration. This is why it's
very important to let your prayer partners know when you will be out of town.
