Christ Renews His Parish Q and A | Print |

Q: What Is A “Christ Renews His Parish” Weekend?

  • This is a two-day retreat unlike any you have previously attended. Parishoners share with one another the ways they have found meaning, hope, peace and love in their lives. Many participants feel that the weekend experience has been among the most powerful and positive of their loves. This is the perfect way to establish a stronger bond with Jesus Christ and fellow parishioners. Expect to have time to pray, talk, listen, laugh and get away from your everyday life.

Q: Who Conducts The Retreat?

  • The renewal team is comprised of men or women who have previously participated in the weekend retreat. The presenters are not professional retreat masters. They are just like you -parishoners that are willing to share their story of their journey to Christ.

Q: What Happens On A “Christ Renews His Parish” Retreat Weekend?

  • Each weekend participant arrives for the retreat at a different stage on his or her journey with Christ. The renewal retreat takes about 32 hours of your time: early Saturday thru Sunday afternoon. It consists of small group participation, the witnessing and sharing by previous members of their spiritual journeys and reflections of your own journey to Christ. There is no pressure on you to talk. You can say as much or as little as you wish. You and your needs will always be respected. You are a guest and will be treated like one. Participants will be given the opportunity to share in the Sacraments of Reconciliation and Eucharist during the weekend.

Q: When And Where Do These Weekends Take Place?

  • We will hold men and women retreats twice a year - in the spring and fall.  The dates will be published in the bulletin and on the parish website. The entire retreat is held at the Incarnate Word Complex, Lower Church Hall.

Q: Do I Need A Personal Invitation?

  • No. If you are interested, we invite you to fill out a registration form and drop it off in the back of the Church or call the Parish Office, (314) 576-5366.

Q: Who May Attend?

  • Any adult, 19 years of age or older. We invite all men and women of the parish to come. Although the weekend is based on the Catholic faith, you do not have to be Catholic to attend. You don’t have to be a regular churchgoer. The weekend might be just the opportunity you need to ease yourself back into active church participation, All you really need is a desire to come and see.

Q: What Do I Wear? Where Do We Sleep? Meals?

  • The entire weekend is informal (dress very comfortably). Every effort is made to accommodate special needs. Sleeping accommodations are in the lower Church Hall. Air beds are provided and you are asked to bring your pillow, blankets or a sleeping bag. Meals are provided by members of Incarnate Word Parish. Snacks will be supplied by all retreat participants and the retreat formation team. There will be plenty for all participants.

Q: What Do Participants Say After The Retreat?

  • “A chance to rediscover your relationship with Christ.”
  • “It’s the greatest gift I have ever given myself.”
  • “CHRP renewed my spirit and rekindled the faith that was long lost in me.”
  • “A wonderful awakening to a new life in Christ.”
  • “I bear witness to the struggles in others lives and their journey to Christ.”
