Q: Do I need any training?
- Yes. The priestl trains servers prior to scheduling them for serving at Mass.
Q: When are training sessions held?
- The priest works with the Day School to arrange training for servers attending Incarnate Word, plus he will arrange for training for any interested young person in the Parish who may attend PSR or may be homeschooled.
Q: Are there written server guidlines? - Yes. They are given to each server during training and are also found HERE (stay tuned for new link!).
Q: What Mass will I server at? - The "signup" form for servers includes a place to indicate which Mass(es) you would prefer to serve. As much as possible, all servers are assigned only to those Masses indicated as a preference.
Q: Can I serve with other family members?
- Siblings (brothers/sisters) can indeed serve together, if that is preferred. However, keep in mind that it is even more important to make sure you show up to serve when assigned (or have found substitutes) if two servers from one family are assigned for a Mass--any unexpected absence of both siblings means two of our three assigned servers will be missing for that Mass!
Q: Can I serve Life Teen Mass (Sundays at 6 p.m.)?
- Servers for the Sunday 6 p.m. Mass are provided through the Parish Youth Ministry Office.
Q: Can we serve a weekday Mass?
- Adult parishioners volunteer as servers for each 7 a.m. and 8 a.m. weekday Mass.
Q: Can I server at an All-School Mass?
- Servers from Incarnate Word School assist at Tuesday and Friday School Masses; they are assigned according to the School's schedule.
Q: How many servers are there at each Mass?
- Usually three servers assist--a Cross bearer and two candle-bearers.
Q: How often will I serve?
- That will depend upon how many servers have signed up to assist at a particular Mass--many servers, for example, sign up to serve at 5 p.m. Saturday, and therefore the scheduling "cycle" is much longer, mean more time between opportunities. But at 7:15 a.m. Sunday, for example, only a small number of servers sign up to assist, meaning they serve much more frequently.
Q: When do I need to arrive for my scheduled Mass? - 15 minutes before Mass is to begin.
Q: How often are schedules distributed?
- Approximately on a quarterly basis.
Q: Are schedules available on the Web?
Q: What should I do if I know I'll be unavailable to serve a scheduled Mass?
- Please find a substitute for yourself.
