Hospitality Ministers Q and A | Print |
Q: What skills do I need to be a Hospitality Minister?

  • A smile and a willingness to arrive 15 minutes early twice a month. The rewards are MANY!"

Q: Do I need special training?

  • Training is minimal and generally "on-the-job". There is an informational list of duties and guidelines for all Hospitality Ministers so that everyone knows what is expected, and a short individual or small group session where various aspects of the ministry are discussed.

Q: How much time is involved?

  • About 15 minutes prior to Mass and 5-7 minutes after Mass.

Q: Would I do this every weekend?

  • You will be asked to serve no more than 2 times a month at the weekend Mass you usually attend. Volunteers are asked for additional services, such as Holy Week, Christmas, Holy Days, etc. Each Mass has a "captain" who prepares a quarterly schedule - you would be responsible for the times you are scheduled.

Q: What if I cannot serve on a particular weekend - or what if I'm on an extended vacation?

  • If you know in advance, advise your Mass captain of the date(s) you will not be available. If you find you cannot attend a scheduled Mass, you are asked to call a substitute or switch with another team member.

Q: Can I volunteer as a sub only?

  • Yes. Subs are always needed.

Q: Am I expected to attend meetings throughout the year?

  • Yes. An annual Ministry Day is held for all Liturgical Ministers - a morning of prayer, information and workshops.

Q: How great is the need for Hospitality Ministers at this time?

  • There is always a need for new Hospitality Ministers. With 6 ministers required per Mass, each team should have 18-20 members. You can call Bill & Marge Stuesse at anytime at (314) 878-6563 and you can sign up each year on the parish stewardship card.
