Disability Ministry Q&A

Q.  Who may participate in the Disability Ministry?

A.  Any parishioner who is interested in helping our Parish become fully accessible for everyone, regardless of limitations, is welcome to join the Disability Ministry.

Q. What is required of a Disability Ministry Volunteer?

A.  On occasion a volunteer will be asked to provide a ride to Mass, provide a meal when a caregiver is out of town, provide companionship, grocery shop, or gather information pertinent to a project that the Ministry is working on. As a volunteer you should be an advocate for persons with special needs in what ever way is best for you.

Q.  How often does the ministry meet?

A.  The ministry meets approximately 6 - 7 times a year.

The mission of the Disability Ministry volunteers is to help make our parish a fully accessible congregation where everyone can share his or her God-given gifts regardless of limitations.  The ministry is currently focusing on education as the means to fulfill their mission in addition to providing rides to and from Mass for those in need of assistance.

The Disability Ministry would like to make sure you are able to participate completely in the mass. The following information may be useful to you, a family member, neighbor or friend.

  1. There is a special pew/area designated for persons who find it difficult to walk to Communion and for those in wheelchairs. This area is the first pew on the right-hand side of the middle section. One of the Hospitality Ministers would be glad to show you.
  2. There are sound amplifiers available for any parishioner who may need help hearing the Mass more clearly.
  3. If for any reason you must sit in the back of the church and cannot walk to Communion, but would still like to receive our Lord, please contact one of the Hospitaility Ministers. He/She will inform one of the Eucharistic Ministers and Communion will be brought to you.
